Overview

Schoolum replaces the patchwork of spreadsheets, paper registers, and one-off apps most schools run on with a single multi-tenant platform. Each school gets its own branded workspace covering student enrollment and records, class/subject timetabling, daily attendance, continuous assessment and report cards (including a dedicated preschool assessment mode), computer-based testing (CBT) with AI-assisted question generation and grading, a native live-classroom for online learning with lecture uploads and progress tracking, fee invoicing with online payment collection, and a full notification system (in-app, branded email, and SMS) covering guardians, staff, and students. A school owner or head of school can manage everything from one dashboard; teachers see only their assigned classes and subjects; parents and students get read-only self-service portals. Schoolum is built to operate as a platform — it hosts many independent schools, each with isolated data, billing, and branding, so a school never has to run or maintain its own infrastructure.

A built-in virtual classroom (powered by LiveKit) lets teachers run live lessons directly inside Schoolum, with optional session recording for students to catch up later.

Lecture & resource library

Teachers upload lecture videos and materials for students to work through at their own pace, with progress automatically tracked per student.

Invoicing & online payments

Schools issue fee invoices — including optional, opt-in fee items — and collect payment online, with everything reconciled automatically against each student’s account.

Branded email delivery

All parent/staff emails are sent under the school’s own branding. Schools can connect their own email provider or use Schoolum’s built-in delivery at no extra setup.

SMS notifications

Critical alerts — like attendance or fee reminders — can be sent by SMS as well as email, through a school’s connected SMS provider.

Bulk CSV import & export

Onboard an entire student, staff, or guardian roster in minutes by uploading a spreadsheet, instead of entering records one at a time.

Self-service password reset

Staff, parents, and students can securely reset their own password without needing an administrator to intervene.

“View as” portal access

School owners, heads of school, and parents can view a student’s portal directly — to check grades, attendance, or assignments — without a separate login or ending their own session.

Pricing and licensing

399$ — One-time payment for the complete source code (Next.js + Prisma/PostgreSQL) and a single production deployment license. Hosting, database, and third-party service costs are handled by you.

Single Deployment License: deploy Schoolum as your own branded platform and onboard unlimited schools under it — multi-tenancy is built in. Resale or redistribution of the source code itself is not permitted under this license. Want to deploy multiple independent instances or resell the platform to other operators? Installation and documentation

  1. Clone the repository and install dependencies (npm install)
  2. Provision a PostgreSQL database (e.g. Neon) and set DATABASE_URL / DIRECT_URL
  3. Set AUTH_SECRET and APP_URL environment variables
  4. Run database migrations (npx prisma migrate deploy)
  5. Deploy to a Node.js hosting platform (e.g. Vercel)
  6. Configure optional integrations as needed: Resend (email), Twilio/Sent.dm (SMS), LiveKit (live classes), Vercel Blob (file storage), Paystack (payments)
  7. Create the first Super Admin account and onboard your first school
